Spirality - How to prevent in knitted fabric

Written By Views maker on August 22, 2008 | 8/22/2008

Reason for SPIRALITY-

  • Yarn twist multiple play the big role on spirality- angle of spirality decrease only when the twist multiple decreases
  • Tightness of knitting construction
  • The number of feeder in a circular knitting machine also influence the angle of spirality.

To prevent the Spirality, following points should be followed up-

  • Tight knitting is very important
  • The tightness factor should be 14 to 16 for Jersey fabric
  • Twist per inch (TPI) should be 19.2 at the spining stage itself
  • The value of twist multiple of the yarn should not be more than 3.2 (formula- TM= TPI / square root of count of yarn)
  • The loop shape factor should be 1.3 considerable
  • Proper texture & guage must be maintained
  • Grain lines must maintain straight
  • During knitting, one to three needles should be dropped to get straightline of the fabric
  • Relaxing of fabric should be made minimum of 12 hrs before cutting is started.
  • Feeding S-twist & Z-twist yarns in alternate courses reduces the spirality
  • Conditioning of Yarn before knitting in the steam....it reduces the snarling tendency of the yarn

China's fall , India's Gain

Official US statistics show that the country imported textiles and apparel worth $24.37 billion during Jan-June 2008, a 5.1% drop compared to $25.7 billion in the corresponding year-ago period. From 2004 to 2007, the country's imports rose from $ 46.93 billion to $ 53.12 billion. India, Vietnam, Cambodia and Bangladesh are among the few countries whose exports of textile and apparel to the US rose during the first six months of 2008 while the world's biggest economy goes through a downturn.

India's exports to the US in the first six months this year remained barely changed at $1.42 billion from $1.41 billion while Vietnam's grew to $824 million from $668 million. Bangladesh's shipments went up to $832 million from $811 million.
The value of Chinese textile exports, on the other hand, fell from $9.7 billion to $ 9.5 billion, while Pakistan was down to $1.42 billion ($1.68 billion) and Sri Lanka $ 201 million ($ 245 million). Turkey clocked exports of $264 million from $313 million in the first six months of 2007. However, China, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Turkey have seen a slowdown in off-take from their US suppliers amid a drop in the value of the country's textile and apparel imports.

In January-June, the value of India's Textile shipments to USA remained unchanged but there was a notable fall in the export of textile and apparel from China to the United States, is sparking hopes of a shift in US orders from the world's most populous nation to this country.

Demand for staple fibre machinery declined steeply

In a global textile machinery market, which had already been weakening since the final quarter of 2007, demand for staple fibre machinery declined steeply, especially in the second quarter. Orders received fell by a massive 61% in the first-half of 2008 compared to a very strong opening six months a year ago, Rieter Textile Systems has reported. Customers in Rieter's main markets, especially Asian spinning mills, have drastically reduced or postponed capital investment in the face of a subdued business outlook - high raw material prices, full yarn inventories and a more restrictive investment policy in China.

Rieter remains convinced that the Asian textile machinery markets offer great opportunities and is therefore continuing with its expansion of manufacturing facilities in India and China, although at a slower pace in line with current market trends.

Tesco To Set Shop In India

Britain's largest and world's No.3 retailer Tesco Plc, plans to set up shop in India with a wholesale cash-and-carry business and a deal to help Indian conglomerate Tata Group grow its hypermarket business. The tie-up with the Tata Group will allow Trent to source quality Tesco products for its Star Bazaar hypermarkets and to benefit from the British retailer's technical know-how and experience. The long-awaited move into the world's second most populous country is the latest expansion by Tesco as it looks for new profit streams beyond its dominance of the British grocery market. The group will compete with the cash-and-carry operations of Germany's Metro AG and Shoprite Holdings, as well as Wal-Mart's venture with Bharti.
Tesco announced a 60 million pounds ($115 million) initial investment to develop a wholesale cash-and-carry business in India that will source directly from farmers and supply to a range of outlets from mom-and-pop stores to hypermarkets. The new wholesale outlets, wholly owned by Tesco, will offer a comprehensive range of fresh food, grocery and non-food products to small retailers, restaurants, owner-run general stores and other business owners.
Alongside, Tesco also announced a tie-up with Trent Ltd, the retail arm of the Tata group, to help develop the Indian company's Star Bazaar hypermarkets.Trent plans to more than double the number of stores it has now, to 100 by March 2010 even as it's mulling a foray into multi-brand outlets and food retailing. Trent currently operates retail stores `Westside', `Landmark' and hypermarket `Star Bazaar'.
Tesco is currently in 13 countries outside the UK, which account for over half of its total selling space. Last year it opened stores in the United States and last month it announced a big push into banking. It is learnt that, Tesco already sources over 170 million pounds worth of Indian products each year, with sourcing offices in Delhi, Bangalore and Tirupur. It also employs nearly 3,000 Indian staff at its Hindustan Service centre in Bangalore that provides information technology, financial and business services to the entire Tesco Group.
