Esprit, which competes with Hennes & Mauritz AB and Inditex SA in the global apparel retail market, said it sees the global retail market continuing to improve. The company said a top priority for the group and an investment focus will be expanding in mainland China, even though demand in its wholesale operations fell during the period. In December, Esprit said it would take full control of its China operations by buying out its joint venture partner. Esprit said earlier that China could eventually replace Europe, which makes up 85% of the company's revenue, as its biggest market.
