A Powerloom Textile Design Centre has been set up at the Power Loom Development and Export Promotion Council office at Palayapalayam in the city PDEXCIL National Chairman, Bharathkumar Chajjar, who inaugurated it yesterday, said the centre would provide design oriented training in Computer aided Textile Design. Trainees would be imparted 50 hour and 25 hour training, he said, adding PDEXCIL had urged the Textile Ministry to grant funds to the centre to run the training centre. He said the Ministry has granted Rs 25 lakh for formation of the studio, which has 10 computers and other facilities. Earlier a person needing a design for powerloom cloth has to spend one week to get proper design, but could get exquisite quality designs within a day from the centre. He said though there is a 50 per cent reduction in yarn and cotton prices, sale of fabrics are still affected. Fabric producers pay increased price for yarn but buyers demand low price claiming reduction in cotton and yarn prices. Last year, only 85 lakh tonnes of cotton of total production of 295 lakh tonnes were exported. This year production has touched 300 tonnes and 65 lakh tonnes were exported. Still hoarding is high in India, said PDEXCIL officials.
