Organic Fraud - by brands like H&M, C&A, and Tchibo

Written By Views maker on January 27, 2010 | 1/27/2010

image H&M may have been destroying and discarding unworn clothing, but at least they made some stuff with environmentally friendly, certified-organic cotton. Apparently some of the cotton they labeled "certified organic" was contaminated with genetically modified cotton from India, the German Financial Times discovered after independent testing. Authorities in India say the fraud is occurring on a "gigantic scale," and blame organic-certification agencies. "30% of the tested samples" of organic cotton fabric contained genetically modified (GM) cotton, EcoTextile News reports However some blame falls with the brands who buy the cotton; consumer-affairs authorities say they should be more vigilant about monitoring overseas supply chains.
